Your launch level: Pre-order ready
Edition picked, console checked. You have the basics: you know the date and your edition, and your console is in shape. The rest is the small stuff that saves you on launch night.
Your next steps
- Free up generous storage: the download size has not been announced.
- Make it your main PS5 or Home Xbox, so the game can start even if the network has a hiccup: the PS5 or Xbox guide.
- Finish the launch checklist and check in on the countdown.

The five launch levels
- Curious (0 to 3 points): you know GTA 6 is coming; the prep has not started.
- Countdown watcher (4 to 6): you know the date and are following the countdown.
- Pre-order ready (7 to 9): your edition is picked and your console is in shape.
- Checklist locked (10 to 12): most of the launch checklist is ticked.
- Day-one ready (13 to 16): everything is done before pre-load opens.
Key dates
Pre-loading opens on 12 November 2026 for digital pre-orders and redeemed codes from boxed copies, which hold a download code rather than a disc. The game unlocks on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not published the download size or an unlock schedule, so leave generous storage free and keep the console online and signed in. Our countdown shows the time left in your time zone, and the launch checklist saves your progress on this device.
