Every matchup and bracket draws on these, 23 in all, each from one of our guides.
Launch routes
- PS5: PlayStation Network, ready on day one. Your launch is on PlayStation 5.
- Xbox Series X|S: Xbox network, Home Xbox set. Your launch is on Xbox Series X or Series S.
- Either console: Two consoles, one choice to make. You have access to both consoles, or you are happy on either.
- Waiting for PC: Not announced yet, so the wait goes on. Your home is PC.
Launch rituals
- Midnight unlock camp: Awake, ready and waiting. You will be up and ready the moment it unlocks.
- Pre-load and sleep: Ready early, rested later. You get everything ready early and play once you have slept.
- Friends' party host: Launch night is a group event. Launch night is a social event for you: friends over, snacks out and everyone taking turns.
- Solo marathon: Phone off, long session. You want one long, uninterrupted session on your own: no notifications, no rush, just Leonida.
- Status-tab hawk: One eye on the status page. You know big launches can make stores, downloads and sign-in busy, so you keep the status page open in a tab all night.
- Waiting-for-PC zen: Calm, patient, no date. You play on PC and you are at peace with waiting.
Setup steps
- Free up space: Rockstar has not published a final install size. Leave generous room on your console's internal or supported external SSD before pre-load opens; big open-world games often need 100 GB or more.
- Check the install drive: Current-generation games must run from the internal SSD or a supported expansion (Xbox Storage Expansion Card, M.2 SSD on PS5).
- Digital pre-order: Only digital pre-orders pre-load. Pre-load opens on 12 November 2026, a week before launch.
- Automatic downloads: So the pre-load and the day-one patch download while you are away.
- Plan the disc download: Boxed copies may still need a large download or update on day one.
- Sign in with the buying account: Licences are tied to the purchasing account. On a shared console, set it as your primary (PS5: Console Sharing and Offline Play; Xbox: Home Xbox).
- Test your sign-in: Sign-in services are busy on launch night. Fix login problems before the rush.
- System update: A pending console update can block a game from starting. Update the day before.
- Check the subscription question: Rockstar describes GTA 6 as a single-player experience and has not announced an online mode, so no subscription is expected to be needed to play.
- Launch day in your calendar: Download the calendar file on the countdown page: it has pre-load day and launch day, with a reminder the day before.
- Bookmark the status page: If the game will not start, check here first: we watch Rockstar, PlayStation Network and Xbox network every 5 minutes.
- Learn the error codes: Our error-code guide explains the PS5 and Xbox codes you are most likely to see at launch.
- Restart the router: A fresh connection helps with the day-one download.
Questions
How does Launch Night Showdown work?
Every day at midnight in Monaco a new matchup opens, the same for everyone: two launch route, launch ritual, setup step picks of the same kind, each from one of our guides. Tap the one you prefer. You get one vote a day, and playing counts towards your daily sweep on today's dailies and a stamp on the Road to Launch pass.
Where do the percentages come from?
From real votes. Each vote is counted anonymously: a random ID your browser makes (so one browser votes once a matchup) and a salted, one-way hash of your connection to stop floods, kept with the vote. No account, no cookie, no email. If the vote counter cannot be reached, you see your own pick and your own history instead, never an estimate.
How does Build your ranking work?
Eight contenders are drawn from the full list below. Pick a winner in each match: four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and a final, seven taps in all. Your champion and its card stay in this browser; start a new bracket whenever you like.
Where do the contenders come from?
Only from this site: every card is something one of our guides covers, its line is the first sentence of that guide, and it links back there. The art is original, made for this site, not official artwork. Visit the guides to collect cards for the album too; seven votes earn a legendary album card.
